Today’s Man City news round-up & talking points — Friday 17th July

City’s summer planning continued to gather pace on Friday, with developments involving midfield targets, attacking options and several players returning from World Cup duty.

Here are the main talking points and Man City news from around the Etihad.

City make contact over Federico Valverde

City have made an enquiry about Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde, according to reports.

The Uruguay international has become one of Real Madrid’s most trusted players since joining the club, offering energy, versatility and quality in possession.

City’s interest comes as Enzo Maresca looks to refresh his midfield options following the departure of key figures and the continued evolution of the squad.

Valverde’s ability to operate in several midfield roles is understood to be one of the qualities that has attracted attention from City.

Midfield planning continues with Camavinga and Bouaddi interest

Valverde is not the only midfielder on City’s radar.

The club are also reported to be monitoring Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga and Lille teenager Ayyoub Bouaddi as they assess options for the next stage of Guardiola’s squad.

Camavinga has already established himself at the highest level, while Bouaddi represents the type of emerging talent City have increasingly targeted in recent seasons.

The pair highlight the different routes City are exploring — experienced players capable of making an immediate impact, alongside younger prospects with long-term potential.

Savinho future at Spurs creates another wide-area decision

City will also need to decide on their future attacking options this summer following the departure of Savinho.

The Brazilian winger has signed for Spurs, which frees up a big wedge of cash and leaves a convenient vacancy in the squad for a quality wide man.

Savinho provided moments of quality during his first campaign at the Etihad, but competition for places in City’s attack remains fierce, and there would always be room for a certain Brazilian winger who appears unsettled at Real Madrid.

Any change in the wide areas would be another significant piece of business for City’s recruitment team.

World Cup trio return after England exit

England’s World Cup semi-final defeat means City trio Marc Guehi, Elliot Anderson and Nico O’Reilly can now turn their attention back towards club football once the ‘bronze medal’ game is done and dusted.

All three featured during England’s tournament run, with O’Reilly gaining valuable international experience after breaking into the senior setup.

Their return will add to Maresca’s options once City’s squad reconvenes ahead of the new campaign.

City continue search for young talent

Away from first-team recruitment, City are continuing to invest in the next generation.

The club have been linked with Angers goalkeeper Max Edgar Chabot, while young forward Ibrahim Mbaye has also emerged as a potential target.

Both moves would fit a familiar approach from City: identifying promising players early and developing them within their wider football structure.

Guardiola continues to be linked with England role

Pep’s future has also remained a talking point, with further reports linking him with the England manager position.

Guardiola has previously been open about the possibility of managing an international side in the future, but his immediate focus remains on Manchester City and preparing for another season at the top level.

That’s everything from today’s City headlines.

From midfield targets to potential changes in attack, City’s summer business is beginning to take shape.
