City are closing in on the signing of Angers goalkeeper Max-Edgar Chabot, according to a report from Le Parisien.
The 18-year-old has rejected a first professional contract at his formative club, as first flagged on X by City Source, with the report — via journalist Benjamin Quarez — indicating that a move to the Etihad is now closing in, though nothing has yet been signed. An agreement could reportedly be reached in the coming days.
Chabot is a France youth international, having represented the country at Under-17 level, and would arrive at City as part of the club’s continued recruitment of highly-rated young talent from academies across Europe.
Angers themselves have had a difficult summer in the goalkeeping department, with Hervé Koffi’s loan spell from RC Lens proving a success last season before the club were priced out of a permanent deal; Anthony Lopes was brought in as a free agent replacement following his Nantes exit. Losing Chabot on top of that would represent a further blow to their academy pipeline.
There’s no indication yet of what involvement, if any, Chabot might have with City’s first-team plans — at 18, and without senior football to his name, this looks firmly earmarked as an academy addition rather than a signing with the senior goalkeeping picture in mind.
City have leaned heavily into recruiting continental academy prospects in recent windows, and this fits that pattern rather than suggesting any change in their senior goalkeeping plans.
This piece draws on reporting from Le Parisien and has not been independently confirmed by Manchester City or Angers.
