Enzo Maresca is set to become Manchester City manager after reportedly agreeing a three-year deal to replace Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium.
The former Chelsea head coach has been lined up as City’s next manager for several weeks, but the appointment has been complicated by compensation discussions between the two Premier League clubs.
Those talks now appear to have moved decisively, with Maresca agreeing terms and Chelsea in line to receive a package worth more than £10m, according to a fresh update from Sky Sports.
Why Maresca’s City return matters
Maresca knows the City structure well after working under Guardiola during the 2022/23 treble season, and that familiarity is central to why the club have pushed for him at the start of a major reset.
Guardiola’s departure leaves City replacing the defining figure of their modern era. Maresca’s task will be to protect the positional identity that made City dominant while adding enough authority of his own to manage a dressing room built for immediate trophies.
The timing also matters because City’s first-team squad will soon return for pre-season testing, meetings and tactical work under a new staff structure.
For supporters, the key point is speed. City need clarity before pre-season begins, and this reported agreement brings the handover much closer to its formal conclusion.
