Will Tijjani Reijnders leave Man City after only one season?
  • One year has passed since Tijjani Reijnders joined City
  • He is already linked with a move away from the club
  • Teams from across Europe have already shown interest

It has been a full year since Tijjani Reijnders made the move to Manchester City, and his future is already up in the air.

When the Netherlands international made the switch from AC Milan, he was supposed to be contending for a spot in the starting lineup.

Arriving at the cost of more than £46m, it was clear that Reijnders was expected to play an important role in Pep Guardiola’s final season.

And in fairness, the 27-year-old got off to a dream start, both scoring and assisting as Man City defeated Wolves on matchday one of the Premier League season.

However, his minutes kept on gradually decreasing to the point that by February, Reijnders was on the bench more often than not.

Tijjani Reijnders has interest from abroad

It was reported in April that Reijnders was attracting interest from several clubs, and such rumours have only continued to intensify.

More recently, Atletico Madrid have been eyeing Reijnders. The Spanish side will be looking for reinforcements after a miserable La Liga campaign.

So even though the midfielder has only spent a year in England, this has not deterred clubs from making their admiration known.

The difficulty of signing Reijnders

Due to the fact Reijnders signed a five-year deal at Man City, he still has a lot of time remaining on his contract.

Additionally, the Citizens will not want to be making a major loss on their 2025 summer signings, which means an offer of around £40m could be required.

Reijnders has not hit the mark at City, but he has not been terrible either. Therefore, there will not be any desperation to sell him. Rather, it is merely an option.

Selling Reijnders is dependent on what offers come in

Ultimately, it seems unlikely Reijnders will depart City after a single season, unless the club are able to earn their money back.

The Dutchman did make 47 appearances in all competitions last season, and he will have the chance to undergo a fresh start under Enzo Maresca.

If the right bid is received, Reijnders will leave Man City. However, it is hard to see anyone meeting the Sky Blues’ asking price, meaning he could still be around next season.
