- Josko Gvardiol has been linked with a Man City exit
- He has a contract offer on the table as thing stand
- The Croat could soon make a decision on his future
Speculation regarding Josko Gvardiol’s future at Manchester City has not looked promising in recent days, until now.
Before suffering a significant injury in January, Gvardiol was a nailed-on starter at Man City. However, things have changed since then.
Marc Guehi joined the club in the mid-season transfer window, while Abdukodir Khusanov has become a very important player.
And in the past week, it has been revealed that Gvardiol is open to a Bayern Munich move, while Real Madrid have also been exploring a deal.
Josko Gvardiol is set to remain at Man City
Despite the ongoing rumours, there have been indications that Gvardiol will remain at the Citizens, according to The Athletic.
The defender is settled at Man City and in the city of Manchester, meaning he may well put pen to paper on a new deal.
Currently, Gvardiol only has two years remaining on his deal. However, he would likely have multiple years added if an extension is agreed.
City will have plenty of central defensive options next season
Back in January, Max Alleyne had to be recalled from his Championship loan due to a shortage of central defensive options at Man City.
However, Gvardiol, Guehi, Khusanov and Ruben Dias could all be fighting it out for a spot in the starting lineup next season.
Additionally, Vitor Reis will be back in the first-team squad, and he could well be utilised in various cup fixtures.
Gvardiol will give Enzo Maresca flexibility
With Gvardiol, impending manager Enzo Maresca would be able to play Nico O’Reilly in midfield when required.
After all, the Croatian international is capable of playing out wide too, while Rayan Ait-Nouri is another option in the position.
With Bernardo Silva leaving, this could be something Maresca decides to do. Of course, Man City want to sign Elliot Anderson, but there is no guarantee Rodri will stay either.
Therefore, being able to move around existing players is important, especially while it remains unclear exactly what the summer transfer window will entail.
