Bernardo Silva reflects on ‘beautiful’ Man City farewell gesture

  • Received a hero’s send-off

Bernardo Silva has looked back on his final match as a Manchester City player, highlighting the emotions he experienced.

Aston Villa were the triumphant team that day, but for Man City, the result was very much a secondary matter.

The Premier League title had already slipped from their grasp in midweek, due to a frustrating draw against Bournemouth.

So rather than turning up with a need to win, the focus for City was on giving Pep Guardiola, Bernardo Silva and John Stones the proper goodbyes they each deserved.

Bernardo Silva reacts to Man City send-off

Speaking to Hello Magazine, Silva has discussed the events of May 24, when he made his final appearance for the Citizens.

“The day was very emotional, nine years is a very long time. The club, my teammates, the fans, they mean a lot,” he said.

“It was nice of them to make that small gesture [guard of honour]. It was beautiful to see how much people at the club care about me. It goes both ways.”

Silva’s contributions will live long in the memory

It was quite fitting that the match was brought to a halt in order for Silva to be applauded off the pitch.

The Man City captain has had an incredible nine years at the club, and he has made sure to go out on a high.

Silva has never been a bystander at City. His leadership and technical abilities have directed the team towards success, and it is no wonder he lifted 20 trophies.

What next for Silva?

According to the man himself, he has already decided on the country of his next move. However, there is still work to be done regarding a specific club.

Barcelona have been mentioned a lot, and they would allow Silva to continue playing in the Champions League and competing for titles.

At 31 years old, it definitely still feels like the Portugal international has a few years left to compete at the highest level.
