Max Alleyne could leave Man City in summer loan move

Max Alleyne could leave Man City in summer loan move
  • Man City weighing up Max Alleyne’s immediate future
  • Could look to keep him in the first-team next season
  • Loaning out the defender is an option being considered

Manchester City’s intentions for Max Alleyne have been revealed, after a season which saw him make his senior debut.

It was in January that Alleyne made his first appearance for Man City, which ended in a 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion.

The defender would go on to score in the FA Cup just three days later, and he played a few more matches during the month.

However, Alleyne has not been fielded in Man City’s senior team since the 2-0 win over Salford in February.

Therefore, having played such a minimal role in recent months, questions are being asked regarding where he will play his football next season.

Max Alleyne could be sent on loan

Alleyne enjoyed 14 Championship starts for Watford before being recalled by City, and he could be set for another loan move.

According to The Athletic, Man City rate their young centre-back highly and have considered keeping him in the first-team next season.

Despite this, his inexperience was highlighted in matches such as the Manchester derby, as well as the Champions League defeat to Bodo/Glimt.

So in order to give Alleyne as much game time as possible, the Citizens will consider sending him on another loan move this summer.

Keeping Alleyne would scupper his development

There is simply no reason for Man City to hold onto Alleyne now that Marc Guehi is at the club. He and Abdukodir Khusanov have been starting every game recently, and Ruben Dias is an option with plenty of experience.

Additionally, Josko Gvardiol is a fine defender, and he has insisted he is happy at Man City, despite rumours about a potential move to Bayern Munich.

And of course, Vitor Reis will be returning from his loan move to Girona, and it is he, not Alleyne, who should be integrated into the first-team.

The best move for Alleyne would be to spend a full season out on loan, where he can play regularly and build his experience.

Another switch to the Championship would make sense, and it would be even better if he could join a team competing for promotion.

How many central defenders could Man City lose this summer?

Gvardiol’s future is still up in the air, even after his recent comments. Then there is John Stones, who has already departed the club as a free agent.

As well as these, Nathan Ake could leave Man City, with a number of teams showing an interest in securing his services.

So if City were to lose multiple defenders, Alleyne would get to play a bit more often. However, a more sensible move would be to sign a new replacement, while allowing the 20-year-old to play weekly elsewhere.
