He said what?! Bernardo Silva reveals his shocking first encounter with John Stones
  • Silva reveals how he met Stones
  • Pair were playing for opposing teams
  • Things got heated very quickly

John Stones and Bernardo Silva may be good friends now, but this was certainly not the case when they met for the first time.

Ever since John Stones announced he would be leaving Man City this summer, he and Bernardo Silva have constantly been grouped together.

From their recreation of that iconic Oasis photo, to a temporary pub named in their honour, the pair have been almost inseparable.

And they will not mind that one bit. After all, Silva even has a pet dog which he decided to call John Stones! However, once upon a time, the City duo were not exactly the best of friends.

John Stones lambasted Bernardo Silva during their first meeting

During Stones’ first season at Man City, the Sky Blues came up against Monaco in the Champions League.

This saw the Englishman go face to face with Silva, and bad blood quickly developed between them after the Portuguese star tried an audacious dive.

Speaking at Monday night’s Co-op Live afterparty, Stones said: “When I played against Monaco, Bernardo was there. He’ll tell you his own version of it, I’ll tell you mine.

“You won a late foul late on in the game, and it was not a foul. And I went over to him and said some words which are a bit explicit.”

Silva responded: “So guys, the first thing I want to say is that when I was at Monaco and I won a foul by cheating, Johnny called me a little soft c***. Yeah, I’m sorry.”

Silva believed in the Pep Guardiola project

Interestingly, Man City were actually knocked out of the Champions League in the tie the departing Citizens are referring to.

Despite winning the first leg 5-3, the second ended in a 3-1 defeat, which meant the Ligue 1 side progressed on away goals.

On top of this, City failed to win a trophy that season, while Monaco went on to become the champions of France.

Therefore, remaining at the club might not have been such a bad move for Silva, but instead he joined Man City.

And in the end, that was certainly the right decision, as proven by the 20 trophies he has lifted at the club.

How will Man City cope without Silva and Stones?

When City begin their pre-season preparations, they will be without two major assets who spent so many years at the Etihad Stadium.

Stones has essentially been replaced already, with Marc Guehi joining from Crystal Palace in the January transfer window.

However, finding someone to fill Silva’s role is a task which must be undertaken during the summer.

Elliot Anderson is a long-term transfer target, but there have been suggestions that Man City could attempt to sign Enzo Fernandez.
