- Phil Foden set to sign new contract
- New details emerge about player’s intentions
- Agent given specific instructions
Phil Foden is close to putting pen to paper on a new deal at Manchester City, and it seems he only ever had one goal for his future.
Earlier this week, Foden agreed a new long-term deal with Man City, keeping him at the Etihad Stadium for the foreseeable future.
The 25-year-old has already made more than 360 senior appearances for the club in all competitions since his debut as a teenager.
Now, he has once again committed his future to the Sky Blues, reaffirming his desire to remain a City player, despite struggling for form and playing time this season.
Phil Foden signs new Man City contract
This week, The Athletic reported that Foden and City had reached an agreement in principle for him to extend his current deal, which was due to expire in 2027.
The new deal is believed to be for four years, with an option to extend for a further year, taking the contract up to 2031.

Foden would be 31 by the time that deal runs out, if the option to extend is taken. By then, the lifelong City fan may well be keen to maintain his status as a one-club man and remain at the club for the rest of his career.
Foden told new agent he only wanted Man City
A key factor in these latest negotiations has been Foden’s new agent, Rafaela Pimenta. According to the Daily Mail, the pair met in November, with Foden making clear that his ‘only desire’ was to remain at City.
Pimenta, who also manages Erling Haaland, has an excellent relationship with the club, and new director of football, Hugo Viana.
It’s been a frustrating season for Foden, but he did look more focused and determined in Monday night’s 3-3 draw at Everton, despite only playing 16 minutes off the bench.
Missing the World Cup could benefit Foden in the long run
It won’t be what he wants to hear, but failing to make Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad with England could be the best thing that happens to Foden this summer.
The squad is yet to be announced, but Foden’s lack of game time and form have severely harmed his chances.
His struggles have put him in the spotlight, and it’s been clear that the 25-year-old’s confidence is at rock bottom. The pressure of a World Cup may only exacerbate this.
Missing out would be tough to take, but a long break before a full pre-season and complete mental and physical reset could be the best thing for Foden in the long run, allowing him to recharge and re-focus ahead of next season.
