  • Ally McCoist and Andy Townsend ranked footballs most dramatic moments
  • Both agreed on Aguero’s iconic goal
  • Argentine’s strike beat some incredible moments

Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero’s iconic Premier League title-winning goal against QPR has been ranked amongst the most dramatic moments in football history.

Regardless of who you support, every football fan old enough to remember it will recall Aguero’s stoppage-time strike, and the commentary to go with it.

Martin Tyler’s famous “Aguerooooooo” moment is one of the most famous footballing lines of all time, and is replayed and discussed frequently well over a decade later.

There is no doubting it is among the most dramatic moments in football history, with pundits Ally McCoist and Andy Townsend agreeing it belongs on top spot.

McCoist and Townsend rank Sergio Aguero goal

Speaking on TalkSPORT, McCoist and Townsend were asked to blind rank some of the most famous and dramatic moments in the history of football.

Despite it appearing first on the list, the pair were in full agreement that Aguero’s goal should be placed at the top of the list.

McCoist said: “I’m going right in at number one”, while Townsend added: “I think I’d have to as well.”

Aguero moment tops Troy Deeney according to pundits

Also on the list of clips shown to Townsend and McCoist was Troy Deeney’s last-minute goal for Watford against Leicester City in the 2013 EFL Championship play-offs.

While it did not beat Aguero’s goal, the duo also agreed that Deeney’s moment was special.

“I watch that every week to cheer me up,” said McCoist, while Townsend added: “I was gonna say, whenever that comes on and you see it, you still can’t believe it. That’s gotta be number two.”

Other moments included goalkeeper Jimmy Glass scoring for Carlisle United against Plymouth, and Michael Thomas’s final day winner for Arsenal against Liverpool to seal the First Division title in 1989.

Will we ever see a repeat of Aguero’s iconic winner?

As Aguero wheeled away in celebration in front of a delirious Etihad crowd, Martin Tyler exclaimed: “I swear you’ll never see anything like this ever again.”

Fourteen years later, and there is still yet to be a moment that captured the same raw elation and celebration.

There have, of course, been plenty of late winners, some even deciding titles. However, it’s hard to see any moment surpassing that which won City their first-ever Premier League title.
