Manchester City women have put their rivals to the sword, causing the Women’s Super League to look very promising.

Club football may be on hold for the international break, but this is not the case for Manchester City’s women’s team.

Andrée Jeglertz’s side took on Manchester United at Old Trafford and picked up a decisive 3-0 victory, delighting those who made the short journey to watch the match.

Vivianne Miedema scored a header in the 17th minute and followed up with another just two minutes later.

This gave the Citizens a strong lead at half-time and things got even better when Kerstin Casparij scored shortly after the second half began.

Man City are one step closer to winning the WSL

Manchester United are currently second in the Women’s Super League and they trailed Man City by eight points before Saturday’s fixture.

This gap has now increased to 11, with City collecting 49 points in total from 19 matches. However, Chelsea could move up to second if they are able to get the better of Aston Villa on Sunday.

With only three matches remaining until the league season concludes, it is certainly looking like Man City will be the team lifting the WSL trophy.

Man City are in FA Cup action next weekend

Like the men’s team, Man City women have reached the FA Cup quarter-finals. Pep Guardiola’s squad will play Liverpool next Saturday and the women will face Birmingham City two days later.

Their next league match is not until April 25, which is a visit to Brighton & Hove Albion. The Seagulls are ninth in the division, but have two games in hand.

City will then host 10th place Liverpool, before rounding off their campaign away to West Ham on May 16. That could be a very important day in the club’s calendar, as the men’s team could potentially be playing in the FA Cup final just hours later.
