  • Man City youngster receives first international call-up
  • The club’s youth programme success in the spotlight
  • Man City might have found the answer to defensive woes

Vitor Reis is about has just achieved one of the greatest honours in football, having received his very first national team call-up.

The World Cup just around the corner and every player is trying their best to be included in their national team squad so they can showcase their talent to the world.

On that note, one Manchester City star has received a maiden call-up by his country. Vitor Reis is set to travel to Orlando, where he will join up with Brazil ahead of their friendly against Croatia next week.

According to ESPN Brazil, Reis was asleep when he received a call from Brazil coordinator Rodrigo Caetano about his selection to the national team. However, he is certainly not sleeping anymore after being told this special news.

Man City’s Vitor Reis is already showcasing his talent at Girona

Man City signed Reis from Palmeiras in January 2025 for a fee of about £32 million. After six months with the club, the Citizens decided to send the defender on a season-long loan to Girona for further development – a plan which seems to be working well.

Reis has been a constant presence in the Girona backline this season. The youngster has appeared in 29 matches, totaling 2477 minutes across all competitions for the Spanish side.

At just 20 years of age, Reis is already showing promise to be a potential regular for Man City in the future. With the Brazilian and Abdukodir Khusanov in their ranks, the future of the club’s defensive line is looking bright.

Vitor Reis’ example highlights Manchester City’s elite youth development programme

Manchester City are known to have one of the best youth development programmes in the Premier League, perhaps even the world. In the last few years, players like Cole Palmer, Phil Foden and Morgan have shown this to be the case.

This recent case of Reis sets another clear example. If the Brazilian can continue on this trajectory, there is a real chance he could become a world-class player in his position.

City, above all, would benefit greatly if that happens, as the club could find a solution to the defensive troubles they are facing this season. That said, it is still too early to determine anything. Reis is on the right path, but there is still a long way to go before knowing for certain.

Whatever the case, we wish Reis all the best for his first Brazil call-up, which is a major milestone, and hopefully he can make a strong impression on the international stage.
