- Man City preparing to spend heavily to strengthen their midfield
- Rumours suggest Rodri could be on his way out next summer
- Man City facing challenges after parting ways with two legends
Manchester City are expected to spend heavily in the upcoming summer as they clearly need some reinforcements in the middle of the park, which currently lacks depth.
City bid goodbye to two of their midfield legends before the start of this season in the form of Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan. Additionally, Rodri, who has played a vital role in the Citizens’ success in the recent past, has had some difficulty with injuries lately.
Moreover, the Spanish defensive midfielder has also been involved in rumours about a potential transfer away. These factors have handed a tough challenge to Pep Guardiola this season, and the results certainly point to that as well.
So, it is no surprise that the club board is shortlisting candidates to strengthen the area. In the meantime, reports have emerged suggesting that City might have already set their eyes on two top Premier League midfielders and are reportedly ready to splash as much as £190 million to secure both of them.
TeamTalk have revealed that City are keen to bring in Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali, who is high on their list. The Citizens are even prepared to offer a player in exchange to persuade Newcastle to sell their prized asset. In addition to this, Elliot Anderson, priced at £90 million, is another player City have been monitoring and could move for in the summer.
Do Sandro Tonali and Elliot Anderson fit in Manchester City’s midfield setup?
Tonali is someone who has regularly turned heads with his footballing ability since his AC Milan days. So there’s not much to say about him other than that he is undoubtedly a world-class player. This season, the Italian has appeared in 47 matches for Newcastle in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing seven assists.
Now coming to Anderson, he is a player with immense talent and a regular in Nottingham Forest’s midfield. The English international has made 41 match appearances, scored two, and provided three assists.
Both of these players have proven their mettle on the pitch. Despite that, Manchester City should be wary of jumping the gun and overpaying for either of them.
Things Manchester City should consider before bringing Sandro Tonali and Elliot Anderson
While there’s little doubt about the quality either of these two possess, there are some factors that City need to take a step back and consider. First of all, Tonali was found guilty of betting-related charges and was even banned for 10 months.
As for Anderson, he is still 23 years old and developing, so a price tag of £90 million seems a bit steep for him. Although it is worth noting that Nottingham Forest are not entirely safe from relegation yet, and if they do end up going down, his price could drop.
In conclusion, both of these players fit the needs of City. Although there are some things to consider, neither Tonali nor Anderson would be a bad signing by any means.
