Manchester City have decided whether or not they wish Phil Foden to remain at the club beyond the summer.
Phil Foden’s season at Manchester City has been on somewhat of a downward spiral over the past few weeks.
The 25-year-old was a nailed on starter for much of the campaign, but he has been seeing a lot more of the bench in recent times.
Indeed, Foden played just one minute of the Carabao Cup final and he is yet to start a match since the 2-2 Premier League draw against Nottingham Forest.
Man City still want to keep Phil Foden
Despite Foden’s difficulties, Man City are still looking to tie him down to a new deal, according to Football Insider.
The midfielder is open to agreeing a new contract, but he wants to receive assurance about his playing time.
If this issue is not resolved, Foden would be ready to leave the Citizens. In such a scenario, City would prefer for the England international to move abroad.
Man City must beware of making Foden false promises
It is not hard to understand why Manchester City want to keep their homegrown talent, but there is a reason why he has not been starting.
The club have plenty of attacking talents and unless he can deliver his best performances, there is no room for Foden in the first-team.
If a new contract is to be agreed, it is vital that Man City are transparent and truthful with Foden about what his role will be at the Etihad Stadium.
Promising him improved minutes will only come back to bite them in the long run, unless this is the club’s legitimate plan.
