- Bernardo Silva is set to leave Man City this summer
- There is speculation about Rodri’s future too
- Man City may therefore have to sign two new midfielders
Manchester City could consider signing a second midfielder, as well as Elliot Anderson, but they will have to engage in a two-way battle in order to secure a deal.
There has already been a lot of movement behind the scenes at Manchester City ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Citizens have various areas which need to be strengthened. This is particularly true of the midfield, as there remains a possibility that both Rodri and Bernardo Silva will leave the club this summer.
It has already been reported that Man City want to sign Elliot Anderson and Manchester United are also interested in the midfielder.
And now, there is another player who has caught City’s eye. However, once again, the Red Devils are prowling.
Man City could battle Man United for Sandro Tonali
Should City lose multiple midfielders this summer, Journalist Alex Crook believes the club could look to sign Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali, as well as Anderson.
Man City have already been linked with Tonali, but multiple clubs were said to be interested. Whereas now, it sounds like Pep Guardiola’s team are in a race with Manchester United to secure his sevices.
He told talkSPORT (as relayed by UtdXclusive): “The noise around Manchester United seems to be getting a lot louder when it comes to Sandro Tonali.
“But I’ve also been told not to rule out Man City because Bernardo Silva’s future is uncertain and obviously there were those quotes this week from Rodri — basically a ‘come and get me’ plea, it felt like, to Real Madrid.
“So if they were to lose both of those players, such as they need Elliot Anderson, that looks like his preferred option at this moment in time. They might need to sign two heavyweight midfielders. So, who knows?
“It could be City vs United in the race for Tonali,” he added.
Sandro Tonali could still leave the Premier League
Even though City and United are battling each other to sign Tonali, there is still a chance he could move away from England.
After all, talkSPORT reported last month that the Italian was keen on a return to his home country and it seems too soon for him to have changed his mind.
Ultimately, there could still be a number of twists and turns between now and the summer. If Man City truly want Tonali, they need to position themselves at the front of the line now, in order to avoid any disappointment in the future.
