Manchester City are set to beat Manchester United to the signing of a Premier League midfielder who has made six appearances for the England national team.
Recent reports have revealed Manchester City are interested in signing Elliot Anderson, with a move this summer being explored.
Nottingham Forest are in a fight for survival in the Premier League and should they go down, securing Anderson could become more straightforward.
However, Manchester United are another club tracking the midfielder which makes the situation more competitive.
Manchester City are leading the way to sign Elliot Anderson
According to Flashscore, Man City are considered the most likely team to land Anderson this summer, despite United’s interest.
The Red Devils have a genuine interest in the 23-year-old, with plans to make him a ‘priority signing’ during the summer.
Despite this, Man City have reportedly already made progress towards securing a deal and their sources believe Anderson would prefer a move to the Etihad Stadium.
This would be yet another triumph for the Sky Blues over their rivals in the transfer market as they already beat them to the signature of Antoine Semenyo in January.
Anderson could cost Man City a hefty transfer fee
Even if Man City lead Man United in the race to sign Anderson, the midfielder is believed to be valued at £100m, which is a lot of money to spend on one individual.
Indeed, Manchester City have only spent that much on a player once in their history, when Jack Grealish was brought to the club from Aston Villa.
However, if Forest do get relegated, they would have less leverage to charge such a high transfer fee. This should give City even more motivation to secure a victory when the sides clash next Wednesday in the Premier League.
