Nico O’Reilly may have risked worsening injury after playing on for Manchester City

Nico O’Reilly was replaced by Tijjani Reijnders during Manchester City’s victory over Leeds and Pep Guardiola has now revealed the extent of his injury.

Manchester City would have been in high spirits after claiming a narrow victory at Elland Road on Saturday evening.

However, this triumph was marred for Nico O’Reilly because he had to be substituted after 70 minutes due to picking up an injury.

This means the two-time goalscorer in Man City’s previous win against Newcastle could have to miss some important upcoming fixtures, as his team’s calendar begins to get hectic.

Pep Guardiola clarifies what happened to Nico O’Reilly

According to Guardiola, O’Reilly has suffered an injury to his ankle and he has not yet provided a timeline for the 20 year old’s recovery.

It could be that the midfielder ends up being out for longer, as he attempted to continue playing even after he picked up a knock.

Guardiola said in his post-match press conference: “It was his ankle. He had a knock on his ankle. He played on and was out.”

O’Reilly was in fine form for Man City

Picking up an injury now is a huge blow to O’Reilly, as he was becoming a big talking point not just at Man City, but on a national scale.

There were talks about whether Thomas Tuchel should call up O’Reilly for England’s World Cup squad, but a lengthy injury spell could harm his chances.

Hopefully, the young talent is back as soon as possible so he can push his team towards silverware and give himself the opportunity to play on international football’s biggest stage.
