Nolito has revealed why he had a problem with some of his Manchester City teammates when he joined the club a decade ago.
One of Pep Guardiola’s first signings at Manchester City was Nolito, who arrived from Celta Vigo for a fee just shy of £14m.
The forward only remained at the Etihad Stadium for a single season, although he still managed to make 30 appearances while registering six goals and five assists.
Nolito was understood to end his brief period in Manchester due his family feeling unsettled in England, but it seems the player had his own issues with the club.
Nolito claims Manchester City were divided
According to Nolito, Man City’s players were not close with each other, causing the Spainard to mostly spend time with his fellow countrymen.
On top of this, he has claimed there were a lot of egos in the dressing room, although the 39-year-old has no intentions of specifically naming and shaming his old teammates.
Nolito told the El After de Post United podcast: “Some ManCity players had huge egos. We’d all take a shower and everyone would leave immediately.
“It wasn’t a very close-knit locker room. I was always with the Spanish guys, [David] Silva or [Jesus] Navas, and we shared a lot in the locker room.
“There were so many good players, I noticed there were a lot of egos. I saw a lot of things, but I prefer not to say anything.”
Nolito never won a trophy at Man City
Unfortunately, Nolito departed Man City after a rare season in which they failed to win any silverware during the campaign.
City would later go on to emerge triumphant in the Carabao Cup and Premier League the following season and the rest is history.
Had Nolito remained in Manchester for a little longer, perhaps he would have warmed to the team a bit more as time passed.
