Manchester City earned another three points in the Premier League over the weekend, but questions have once again been raised about their inability to win matches more easily.
It took Manchester City no time at all to record a big victory in the Premier League, as they conquered Wolves 4-0 on the opening weekend of the season.
Results to have occurred since include a 3-0 thrashing of Manchester United, a 5-1 hammering of Burnley and various 3-0 wins, one of which happened earlier this month against Fulham.
However, City began the calendar year with three consecutive draws and most of their triumphs since then have been close calls.
Pep Guardiola explains why Man City are struggling to win big
The expectations for Manchester City are so high that even when Pep Guardiola leads his team to victory, there are still demands about the manner in which he does it.
Guardiola was asked by the media if City need to start winning matches more easily and he was quick to point out the quality of Leeds, who have been a tough side to defeat in recent weeks.
Man City’s manager replied: “I said to the players, ‘Score five goals today’. But they don’t follow me.
“If it looks easy this business, you’re wrong… It was easier today than the past, for the way we played, we controlled. It’s not easy when they make a lot of transitions, have chances, and they didn’t have much. We didn’t have much, but we built up.
“Some players are coming back, Jeremy [Doku] is back, Erling [Haaland] will be back. As much as you have players fit, we’ll do it.
“That team [Leeds] drew in Stamford Bridge, drew in the 88th minute when it was 0-1 at Aston Villa; two Champions League teams. It’s an incredible team, Daniel [Farke] has made an incredible team. It’s not easy.”
Guardiola added: “Always I think when you arrive with three months left, everything is mindset. It’s one game at a time, do everything to win the game – it’s what we have to do.”
Arsenal have scraped wins on multiple occasions
The most important thing for Guardiola and Man City is to win games of football, whether that is by five goals or only one.
Funnily enough, Arsenal appear to have the exact same aspirations, as there have been a number of occasions when they have won by a single goal in the Premier League.
Despite this, Mikel Arteta’s men have been heavily praised by the press, while City have been called out for the same thing.
Perhaps since Man City have won so much over recent years, the expectations are simply a lot higher than the league leaders, who are without a trophy since 2020.
