James Trafford receives interest from Champions League club as transfer rumours intensify

James Trafford appears frustrated at Manchester City and he could be offered a summer exit by a club currently competing in the Champions League.

When James Trafford joined Manchester City last summer, he was expecting to be given a good amount of game time in the first-team.

However, Gianluigi Donnarumma was bizarrely forced out of PSG, allowing Manchester City to swoop in and sign the talented Italian shot-stopper.

This came at the expense of Trafford, who is yet to make a Premier League appearance since a 2-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion back in August.

The 23-year-old did feature for City last weekend during their 2-0 FA Cup victory over Salford City. However, he has been clear that he was not expecting to be on the bench so much this season, which could indicate a move in the coming months is on the cards.

Newcastle United are interested in signing James Trafford

Trafford has been linked with a number of clubs since he arrived in Manchester, with Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Leeds United having all considered the young Englishman.

According to City Xtra, Newcastle United also expressed interest in Trafford and despite no move emerging, he is still on the club’s transfer wishlist.

Manchester City would be willing to sell the goalkeeper if he expresses a desire to depart and if a club meets their asking price. Therefore, Newcastle could be given a second chance at landing the player who has been on their radar since his Burnley days.

Trafford has no future at Manchester City

Although Trafford is a useful asset to have, he is obviously going to become unsettled without first-team football at his current age.

The Carlisle-born star risks missing out on a place in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad this summer due to his lack of matches, so his situation is a real problem.

Ultimately, Donnarumma is not at risk of losing his regular position in the starting lineup, which means Trafford could well be on his way out after the conclusion of the season.
