Sergio Aguero facing three-match ban for elbow

Sergio Aguero could be facing a three-match ban after he supposedly elbowed West Ham United defender Winston Reid when the New Zealander challenged for a header in Sunday’s Premier League fixture at the Etihad. The striker was caught on camera with his elbow in the face of Reid, and could be subject to retrospective action.

The potentially three-match run would include the first Manchester derby of the season at Old Trafford, increasing the difficult of winning what could be an early crunch match in the title race, with both City and United on perfect starts.

Games against Bournemouth and Swansea City – with the latter being in the EFL Cup – also come during the next three domestic fixtures, although the Argentinian would be able to play in the Champions League fixture at Borussia Mönchengladbach in the mid-week following the trip to Old Trafford.

In the footage, Aguero appears to raise his elbow to Reid’s face as he heads the ball during the second half of City’s 3-1 win at the Etihad. He was eventually replaced by Fernando in the 88th minute, with The Blues looking to see out the win.

Should Aguero receive a ban for the apparent elbow, Kelechi Iheanacho or Nolito are likely to take his place up-front for the games immediately after the international break.
