Eduardo Mauri has joined Manchester City as the new doctor, according to L’Avenir. The 55-year-old becomes the latest addition to a backroom staff which underwent significant changes when Pep Guardiola arrived from Bayern Munich at the start of the summer.
The Blues have been plagued by continuous injuries for the past few years, especially to leg muscles. In bringing in Mauri, they will be hopeful of ending this continuous stream of injuries, enabling them to put a consistent side out regularly.
Mauri is a former First Division player in Spain, playing for Espanyol in the top flight for six years, although he was never a regular in the side, playing just over 60 league games for them. While at Estadi de Sarria, Mauri earned a runners-up medal in the UEFA Cup, losing the final on penalties to Bayer Leverkusen.
A number of names joined Pep Guardiola at City when he arrived this summer, with many coming from Bayern after originally working with him at Barcelona as well. These include Manuel Estiarte, Domenec Torrent, Carles Planchart and Lorenzo Buenaventura. Former midfielder Mikel Arteta also joined The Blues as joint-assistant coach after retiring at the end of last season.
Unlike them, Mauri arrives from AS Eupen, who earned promotion from Belgium’s second division as runners-up last season.
