La Liga side Valencia are preparing a move for Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala if Shkodran Mustafi leaves the club this summer, say the London Evening Standard.
The former Everton defender has been linked with a move to Premier League rivals Arsenal this summer, who are short of defensive cover.
Having already lost Per Mertesacker to a long-term injury this summer, Brazilian defender Gabriel injured his ankle during the International Champions Cup between Arsenal and City and has been ruled out for up to two months.
The Gunners have just Calum Chambers and Rob Holding as their available centre-backs with Laurent Koscielny still on his post Euro 2016 holiday.
Manchester City have signed John Stones from Everton for £42m, making him the most expensive British footballer ever and casting doubt over the future of Eliaquim Mangala.
The former Porto defender was excluded from City’s Champions League squad, along with Wilfried Bony and Samir Nasri, and has been linked with a move away from the Etihad.
Valencia are one of the sides interested in Mangala this summer, but they are holding off on a move for now as they hope Mustafi rejects Arsenal to stay at the club.
