Besiktas manager Senol Gunes has confirmed that the club don’t want to sign Manchester City left-back Aleksandar Kolarov, closing off one potential route out of the club for the Serbian defender. After a poor season last year, he has spent much of this summer being linked with moves away, but seems likely to be part of the squad for the new season with no move forthcoming.
“There were also rumours about Aleksandar Kolarov but he wasn’t in my plans,” Gunes said, quoted by FourFourTwo.

Kolarov has been at City for six years, but has been inconsistent for much of that time, and has occasionally struggled to find a way past Gael Clichy into the starting lineup. He has played 136 times for The Blues, but has come in for increased criticism after last season.
Prior to the transfer window opening, there was a lot of talk about potential signings, but a lack of outgoings has prevented any replacements coming in. There’s been a general lack of departures so far this summer, with the most major ones being Richard Wright and Martin Demichelis, who both left when their contracts expired. Other than that, business has mostly been with youth players.

And The Telegraph believe that any possible incomings rely on a Kolarov departure first, meaning the lack of interest from Besiktas in the 30-year-old is disappointing. There’s just under a month left of the window to find a buyer and a replacement, but at this stage a move looks unlikely.
