Fernandinho has heaped praise upon Sergio Aguero, his City teammate and international rival, comparing The Blues’ star striker to two of the former Shakhtar Donetsk man’s compatriots, Romario and Ronaldo, who are remembered as two of the best players to ever emerge from South America.
Likewise, Aguero has been one of South America’s best exports since he moved to Atletico Madrid in 2006 and then to Manchester City in 2011, where he’s won two league titles and a Capital One Cup trophy. He’s garnered praise from just about everywhere, but now Fernandinho has come out and lavished him with some of the best compliments he could bestow on the spearhead of City’s attack.

Quoted by The Guardian, Fernandinho said: “He’s an amazing player, with great technical ability and great finishing. He showed that on the pitch and you are happy to have him on your side.”
“Last year he was the best striker in the Premier League and top scorer, but he didn’t win the title of player of the year. This year I hope he can score a lot of goals again and he can win that title.”

“Yes, he is like Romário when he plays. His style is similar as Romário and if he can score a lot of goals like Romário did then I will be very happy. I watched Romário when I was young and he was one of my idols. Romário was amazing, Sergio is amazing and Ronaldo too.”
In Brazil, we had a lot of good players, strikers like that. Sergio has a great chance to be the best striker in the world, to be like them as one of the best ever, if he keeps working hard as he is now. When Romário or Ronaldo missed a chance they continued and go for the next one. They continued working and trying and I think this is the difference of the great players. That’s what Sergio is like.”

“It’s important to keep Sergio fit. When he is fit, he can cause a lot of problems for the opponents and help us with goals and assists because he is a great player.”
Last season, Aguero managed to score 26 goals in just 33 games in the Premier League, and that came in spite of an injury which kept him out for a little while, and which also hampered his form when he did finally return to the team. The 27-year-old won the Golden Boot ahead of Harry Kane and Diego Costa, but having already score one brilliant goal this season, he’ll be hoping to retain his title and drive Manchester City to their third Premier League title in five years.
