City are reportedly among the Premier League clubs showing interest in Atletico Madrid’s Marcos Llorente as he enters the final year of his contract.
The 31-year-old’s current deal with Atletico expires next summer and, according to TEAMtalk, Liverpool have looked into a possible move.
Man City and Chelsea are also said to be interested in Llorente, although there is no suggestion that City have made an approach or opened talks.
Atletico, meanwhile, are confident that the Spain international will agree a new contract and remain in Madrid.
City keeping tabs on Llorente situation
Llorente has been with Atletico since leaving Real Madrid in 2019 and signed his present contract two years later, committing himself to the club until June 2027.
His versatility has been a major feature of his time under Diego Simeone. Llorente has played in midfield, at right-back and further forward during his seven years with Atletico. He remains heavily involved this season, starting five of Atletico’s opening seven La Liga matches.
City made major changes to their midfield during the summer, with Enzo Fernandez and Ayyoub Bouaddi among the players brought in as Enzo Maresca reshaped the squad.
There is nothing in the latest report to suggest Llorente has emerged as a priority for City, and Atletico’s confidence over a new contract could yet bring the matter to a close.
Until that happens, his contractual position leaves an obvious opening for interested clubs. If Llorente reaches January without signing a new deal, clubs outside Spain would be free to discuss a pre-contract agreement with him for next summer.
For now, City appear to be keeping an eye on the situation alongside Liverpool and Chelsea rather than making a move.
