Maresca confirms one return and one absence for City against Coventry

Matheu Nunes Man City

Maresca has confirmed Matheus Nunes is available for City against Coventry – but Jérémy Doku remains sidelined.

City return to the Etihad on Saturday looking to make it three Premier League wins from three after victories over Bournemouth and Crystal Palace. And Maresca has received a boost ahead of the game with Nunes back to fitness.

Nunes available but Doku still out

Nunes missed the Community Shield through injury before returning as a substitute in the opening Premier League victory over Bournemouth.

He was then described by Maresca as “still not 100%” ahead of the trip to Crystal Palace and did not feature at Selhurst Park.

There was better news from the manager on Friday. Asked for the latest injury update ahead of Coventry, Maresca confirmed Nunes is available.

Doku, however, remains out. The Belgian suffered a calf problem during the Community Shield defeat to Arsenal and has subsequently missed City’s opening two league matches.

His continued absence leaves Maresca without one of his most direct attacking options, although the City boss has plenty more to choose from following a busy end to the transfer window.

Enzo Fernández, Iliman Ndiaye and Allan Elias are all in contention following their Deadline Day arrivals.

Nunes gives Maresca another option too. With the Champions League to come later this month and City’s fixture list about to become considerably busier, his return is well timed.
