City are reportedly considering a move to bring former academy coach Craig Mudd back to the club, less than a year after he left for Sheffield Wednesday.
It is understood they have an interest in re-signing Mudd, according to The Star, with the report suggesting the move has been informed by the departure of Ben Wilkinson — son of Sheffield Wednesday legend Howard Wilkinson — from City’s academy staff to Derby County.
Mudd spent over a decade rising through City’s youth ranks before joining Wednesday in September 2025, where he has worked as part of Henrik Pedersen’s first-team coaching staff.
The Star stresses nothing has been decided, and the report was first carried by fan outlet The Wednesday Word before being independently followed up.
Should Mudd depart Hillsborough, it would leave Pedersen needing to fill a role he only appointed last summer amid a testing period for the Owls off the pitch, with The Star naming FC Zürich academy head Roko Milicevic as a name to watch as a possible replacement, though that angle is described as highly speculative at this stage.
For City, it would be another instance of the club’s coaching pipeline flowing outward and back — Mudd would return to a set-up that has already seen Carlos Vicens depart for Braga this year, part of a wider reshuffle at youth level as Enzo Maresca’s changes ripple through the club’s development staff.
