Today’s Man City talking points: Anderson arrives, Camavinga latest and Doku through

Manchester City’s summer transfer business continued on Thursday as the club confirmed the signing of Elliot Anderson, while fresh updates emerged on another midfield target and Jeremy Doku helped Belgium book their place in the World Cup last 16. Here are today’s main talking points.

Anderson becomes City’s latest signing

Manchester City confirmed the signing of Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, completing one of the club’s biggest deals of the summer.

The midfielder arrives after an impressive campaign at the City Ground and is expected to strengthen the Enzo Maresca midfield options in the middle of the park. Still only 23, Anderson is viewed as a player who can make an immediate impact while also becoming a key part of City’s long-term plans.

Camavinga update offers little encouragement

While one midfield deal has been completed, another appears much less likely.

Eduardo Camavinga continues to be linked with a move to the Etihad, but reports suggest Real Madrid have no intention of allowing the France international to leave this summer. That means City may have to look elsewhere if they want to add another central midfielder before the window closes.

Doku helps Belgium reach the last 16

Jeremy Doku was on the winning side as Belgium came from behind to beat Senegal 3-2 and secure their place in the World Cup last 16.

The winger was once again heavily involved before being substituted during the second half, and before Belgium staged that late comeback to win in extra time. City’s international contingent remains well represented as the knockout stages continue.

Attention turns to the next addition

With Anderson now through the door, attention naturally shifts to where City strengthen next.

Midfield has been a clear priority throughout the summer, but there could yet be movement in other areas of the squad as Maresca continues to shape his first team ahead of the new Premier League season.

A busy summer continues

Man City have wasted little time in strengthening the squad and Anderson’s arrival is another sign that recruitment plans are progressing as expected.

With pre-season fast approaching, further arrivals cannot be ruled out, while decisions on a number of current squad members are still expected before the transfer window closes.
