- Man City are eager to sign Elliot Anderson
- Two offers have already been rejected
- Nottingham Forest’s asking price revealed
Manchester City have just learnt how much they will be required to pay in order to secure Elliot Anderson’s services this summer.
The pursuit of Anderson is one of, if not the biggest stories to emerge leading up to the summer transfer window.
It appears to have long been a two-horse race between the Manchester rivals, but City have always been in the lead.
Their first bid to sign Anderson was rejected by Nottingham Forest. However, this did not deter the domestic double winners from trying again.
Unfortunately, this offer was also turned down, with Forest refusing to be persuaded away from their firm stance.
Nottingham Forest want £130m for Elliot Anderson
According to the Daily Mail, Nottingham Forest were unwilling to part ways with Anderson in exchange for City’s £106m bid, with add-ons worth £15m.
Instead, the East Midlands club are demanding £110m with £20m in bonuses, taking their total asking price up to £130m.
This would cause Man City to smash the British transfer record to sign Anderson. In fact, he could even become the third most expensive player of all-time.
Man City are not giving up on Anderson
The Citizens are already planning a third bid for Anderson, and remain confident in completing a deal during the summer.
With no offer anywhere to be seen from Man United, it does feel as though the England international will be heading to the Etihad.
However, Forest have shown that they are not budging. Therefore, City may well have no choice but to pay the £130m.
Bernardo Silva’s long-term replacement
City are not throwing money around for the sake of two or three years. The expectation will be that Anderson is going to be at the club for a long time.
Silva has stayed for nine years up until his departure this summer, and it will be hoped that Anderson does the same.
Still, the step up from Forest to Man City is a big one, so spending this much on the midfielder is risky business.
Hopefully though, Anderson will find his feet quickly and rise to the challenges which come with being a Sky Blue.
