Erling Haaland then scored the winner at Old Trafford despite City playing much of the Manchester derby with 10 men, before Sunderland were beaten 5-3 at the Etihad.

City returned from the October international break with a 3-0 victory at Liverpool and followed that by beating Ipswich 3-2. Their perfect league record finally ended at Villa Park, where Nicolas Jackson scored twice in a 2-1 Aston Villa victory despite Haaland finding the net for City.

Man City in the Champions League

City have taken six points from their opening three league-phase matches. They began with a 2-0 victory at Porto before suffering a 4-2 home defeat against Paris Saint-Germain. Phil Foden then scored a hat-trick as City responded with a 5-1 victory over AEK Athens. RB Leipzig are next on 4 November, followed by Napoli, Barcelona, Lens and Sporting CP.
