Rayan Ait-Nouri could leave Man City in January after Maresca change

Rayan Aït-Nouri Man City predicted XI

Rayan Ait-Nouri could reportedly leave City in January after falling down the pecking order under Enzo Maresca.

The Algeria international has yet to play in the Premier League this season, despite being a regular part of City’s squad during his first campaign at the Etihad. A Manchester Evening News report says Ait-Nouri’s future is now in doubt, with a January departure potentially becoming an option if his situation does not change.

Ait-Nouri facing uncertain Man City future

Ait-Nouri joined City from Wolves in the summer of 2025 and signed a five-year contract running until 2030. He made 28 appearances during his first season, providing five assists, but the arrival of Maresca has changed his position within the squad.

The 25-year-old has found himself behind other options since the start of the campaign and has not featured in the league. That represents a significant change for a player City signed after five seasons of Premier League experience with Wolves.

January could therefore provide an early decision for both player and club. Ait-Nouri remains under a long-term contract, so City are in a strong position should interest emerge, while his previous Premier League record is likely to attract potential suitors.

Much could still depend on his opportunities before the transfer window opens. City’s schedule provides Maresca with chances to rotate his squad, including Wednesday’s Carabao Cup meeting with Brighton.

For now, there is no suggestion a departure has been agreed, but Ait-Nouri’s lack of Premier League football has left his position looking considerably less secure than it did during his first season.
