  • Manchester City are not happy with the claims to have been made
  • Club considering whether to take legal action against Los Blancos

Claims made by Real Madrid’s presidential candidate about Erling Haaland have not gone down well – in fact, they could lead to legal action.

Where would Man City be without Erling Haaland? The striker scored 38 goals this season, tallying nine assists too.

Therefore, it was concerning to read that Haaland was being linked with a move to La Liga back in March.

However, the striker shut down these rumours a month later by saying he was looking forward to continuing with City.

Despite this, Real Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme has guaranteed he can complete a move for Haaland.

Man City consider legal action against Real Madrid

Riquelme is competing against Florentino Perez for the presidency at the Spanish club, and he is going to extreme lengths in order to come out on top.

He said: “If I break my promises regarding either of these players, I’ve signed a guarantee where I’d pay 100 per cent of membership costs for next season. Haaland has a release clause, and he wants to come to Madrid.”

This comment has been met with immediate backlash, with Man City releasing a statement with threats of legal action.

The club’s spokesperson said: “The stories which have emerged from Spain regarding the future of Erling Haaland are untrue.

“There is no chance of this happening and there is no contractual clause to enable it. We are considering legal action for the use of our player image in this context.”

Erling Haaland’s team rubbish Riquelme’s claim

It is not just Man City who are unimpressed by Riquelme’s wild revelation about Haaland’s contractual situation.

His father Alfie and agent Rafaela Pimenta have issued a joint statement, branding the Spanish businessesman’s comments untrue.

“All very entertaining but not true,” it read. “We wish all the best for both candidates in the Madrid elections.”

Haaland is not going anywhere

Perez has been Real Madrid’s president since 2009, so clearly Riquelme is making big promises in order to stand a chance ahead of Sunday’s election.

However, everything he has said about Haaland is simply not true, which has been clarified by his club, agent and even a close family member.

The Norwegian international has lifted two trophies in recent months, and he has made it clear that he is looking forward to what comes next.

Whereas Real Madrid have had an awful season, and are making a desperate attempt to become relevant again by re-appointing Jose Mourinho.

So without a doubt, Haaland will still be a Citizen next season, and he has a deal which will not run out until 2034.

matchday.
