- James Trafford has made his demands clear to Man City
- The goalkeeper could end up being sold this summer
- Certain demands will need to be met by interested clubs
Manchester City are willing to sell James Trafford once the summer transfer window opens, but this is dependent on certain criteria being met.
Bernardo Silva and John Stones have already exited Man City this summer, after lengthy spells at the Etihad Stadium.
James Trafford has not been at the club for anywhere near as long, and yet he could be set to depart already.
The shot-stopper may have started both cup finals during the past season, but he was limited to four starts in the Premier League.
And with his frustrations clear for all to see, Man City have already identified Pierce Charles as a potential replacement.
Man City are willing to sell James Trafford
According to TEAMtalk, Man City are open to selling Trafford. However, this is on the condition that he pushes for a move.
The 23-year-old is clearly a top class and locally-trained talent, so there is no reason to force an exit unless it is his preference for the club to do so.
Additionally, approving Trafford’s exit can only happen if City recoup the £30m it cost to sign him from Burnley last summer.
With this in mind, any team interested in signing the England international could have to pay upwards of £40m.
Trafford is keen on joining Newcastle
When Trafford signed for Man City, he expected to be their first choice goalkeeper, and another season as Gianluigi Donnarumma’s understudy is simply not good enough.
Therefore, Newcastle United have become leading contenders to sign Trafford, and he is interested in a move there, favouring Eddie Howe’s ongoing project.
The Magpies are not the only club in the race, with Aston Villa, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all keeping tabs on his situation.
Enzo Maresca has a big decision to make
Hugo Viana will be the one talking with Trafford for now, but ultimately it is Enzo Maresca’s decision on what to do with him.
Donnarumma was the club’s primary option under Pep Guardiola, and this could well remain the case under Maresca.
After all, he is Italian like Donnarumma. Also, the 27-year-old is still widely considered as one of the best keepers in the world.
Still, losing Trafford would be a blow to City, as he could become England’s first choice number one some day. So Maresca’s decision is definitely a tough one.
