  • Man City have 20 players going to the FIFA World Cup
  • Some of them will face each other in the group stage
  • These matches will be of interest to City supporters

Manchester City have lots of their squad members at the World Cup this summer, meaning there is plenty for us to keep an eye on.

Since 20 players in total are making the trip to North America, it will come as no surprise to learn that there will be City stars clashing on opposite teams.

With this in mind, here are the top three group stage matches later this month which are not to be missed.

Three unmissable World Cup matches for Man City fans

England v Croatia

Man City have more players in the Three Lions squad than any other national team, while Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol will be representing Croatia.

Therefore, this is bound to be an intriguing battle, with sky blue stars likely playing important roles in the defensive areas of both teams.

For England, Nico O’Reilly and Marc Guehi could well be starting most fixtures, while James Trafford and John Stones will support as options from the bench.

Date and kick off time: Wednesday, June 17 at 21:00 BST

Portugal v Uzbekistan

Abdukodir Khusanov’s nation will be going into this tournament as huge underdogs, and this game in particular will be quite the challenge.

Portugal won the UEFA Nations League last summer, and have three exceptional City players in their ranks.

Ruben Dias and Matheus Nunes will be looking to keep things organised at the back, while preventing Bernardo Silva from controlling the game will be far from easy.

Khusanov has proven himself in a world class Man City team, but can he do just as well for a country playing in their first ever World Cup?

Date and kick off time: Tuesday, June 23 at 18:00 BST

England v Ghana

This is another must-watch clash involving Thomas Tuchel’s team, and it is all to do with the possibility of a contest between O’Reilly and Antoine Semenyo.

In his three appearances for Ghana this season, Semenyo has played in a different position each time.

However, he most recently started as a right winger. If this happens against England, he could well be attacking against O’Reilly.

It will be interesting to see who comes out on top in this battle, as both players have had highly impressive seasons.

Date and kick off time: Tuesday, June 23 at 21:00 BST
