Who is Mahamadou Sangare? A closer look at Man City’s French wonderkid
  • Mahamadou Sangare impressed for PSG
  • Signed for Manchester City last summer
  • Had a strong first season in England

Erling Haaland is leading the line at Manchester City for now, but Mahamadou Sangare is one to watch for the future.

Man City knew they had sealed a superb talent when they brought Sangare to the Joie Stadium in June last year.

The striker was a joint-top top scorer in the 2024/25 UEFA Youth League, netting eight times for PSG

And this is despite the fact the French team failed to make it out of their group after recording two wins, a draw and three defeats.

In total, Sangare scored 42 goals in 46 appearances for PSG’s under-19s team. So it was no surprise when City swooped in and offered him a five-year contract.

Mahamadou Sangare has had a good opening season at Man City

Sangare made the step up to under-21s football this season, representing Man City in Premier League 2.

The 19-year-old bagged seven goals in 16 appearances, and scored in both the quarter and semi-finals of the play-offs. Additionally, Sangare managed three goals and an assist in three EFL Trophy games.

While his UEFA Youth League campaign for City was less impressive than the previous year, the centre forward did score a hat-trick against Monaco in the group stage.

Sangare has represented France at youth level

As well as playing for Man City, Sangare has played in France’s under-18s and under-19s teams, including this year in some Euro u19s qualifiers.

Sangare played the first half against Norway, and was substituted on during a 2-1 victory over Switzerland.

The Citizen youth player will be hoping to have more of an impact this summer, with France participating in the main tournament.

When will Sangare make his Man City senior debut?

Sangare has moved up to under-21s football and managed to cope just fine, so this could be the season he gets his first taste of the senior game.

Man City will be competing in four different competitions, and depending on the club’s draw, he might be handed his first appearance.

Without a doubt, Sangare will be eying the Carabao Cup as his route into the first-team, even if it is only for brief cameos in one or two matches.

Having impressed in the Premier League 2, now seems like a good time to be showing Sangare what it is like to play for the senior team.

His pace and clinical nature have proved effective so far in his career, but it is time to see whether he can hack it in the biggest and most physical games.
