- Man City defeated Arsenal in April
- The match has broken a record
- Highlights the club’s global appeal
Manchester City’s 2-1 Premier League victory against Arsenal has broken a record which was previously set by the same two teams.
In the end, it was Arsenal who won the Premier League title. However, City gave themselves the platform to take control on April 19.
Rayan Cherki scored a fine goal to hand Man City the lead early on, but a Gianluigi Donnarumma error saw the Gunners respond a couple of minutes later.
However, Erling Haaland found the net in the 65th minute, in what would go on to be the winning goal for the hosts.
Then in the week, the Citizens defeated Burnley to go top of the Premier League table for a brief period of time.
Man City vs Arsenal sets US TV record
According to Man City’s official website, the club’s win over Arsenal has set a new record as the most watched Premier League fixture ever in the United States.
In total, 2.6 million viewers tuned in to watch the match live on NBC, Peacock and Telemundo, beating the 0-0 draw between City and Arsenal at the Etihad played out in March 2024.
This is a reflection of the Premier League’s growing popularity in the US, with 18.33 billion minutes of action consumed.
As a result, the 2025/26 campaign has been the second most viewed season of all-time in the country which will be co-hosting the World Cup this summer.
City’s other win over Arsenal meant much more
While Man City’s Premier League victory against the Gunners is the one which had the most global appeal, fans will look back on the Carabao Cup final with more fond memories.
Pep Guardiola’s team delivered a dominant display that day, winning 2-0 thanks to Nico O’Reilly’s brace.
It would go on to be the first of two finals City won. This ensured Guardiola left on a high note, despite the disappointment of failing to secure the league title.
US supporters would love to see Guardiola take the Inter Miami job
Yesterday it was reported that David Beckham wants Guardiola to manage Inter Miami. Considering so many Americans have been watching his team, this would be a move they would enjoy.
However, it is looking unlikely that the manager will make the switch, as he is looking to enjoy some time off.
After that, it is most likely that Guardiola will seek to enter international management, and the US national team could actually be an option.
Mauricio Pochettino’s contract expires in September, and extending his stay will be dependent on their performance at the World Cup.
Despite this, Guardiola is more likely to remain in Europe, and he has future plans to take charge of the England national team.
