- Pep Guardiola could leave Man City this summer
- Alan Sherer wants manager to stay put
- Reflects on his brilliant 10-year spell
Pep Guardiola could part ways with Manchester City this summer, but Alan Shearer has called on him to see out his contract.
Man City won a few trophies before the reign of Pep Guardiola, but he is the one who turned them into the club they are today.
The Citizens have become serial winners under his leadership and management, winning six Premier League titles, and becoming champions of Europe for the very first time.
However, there are rumours surfacing that Guardiola could leave Man City once the season is over, ending an era which will take its place in the history books.
Alan Shearer does not want Pep Guardiola to quit
Ex-Premier League striker Alan Shearer has highlighted just how successful Guardiola has been at Man City.
Shearer would like to see the manager continue in his current role next season, but he has a lot of respect for him no matter what decision is made.

“I honestly haven’t got a club [whether Pep Guardiola will stay or go],” Shearer told The Rest is Football.
“I guess I admire the way, if he does go then for them to keep it quiet as they have done and he has done, and he’s constantly said the same thing that he’s going to stay. But I don’t know, I really don’t know. I’m just guessing in what I say.
“I hope he stays for another year, but if he decides to go out after 10 years and 20 trophies and two trophies [this season], and he’ll still say they’ve got a chance [to win the Premier League],” he continued.
“They have to go to Bournemouth and win, clearly. But whatever he decides, it’s been a pleasure to watch his teams and how he dismantled everyone else and won everything that he has won.”
Guardiola could have even more success next season
There have been a lot of changes to Man City’s squad over the past year, and that has had a direct impact on their performances.
The Sky Blues may have won two trophies, but it is Arsenal who are currently best placed to win the Premier League.
In addition to this, City experienced another poor Champions League campaign, which saw them knocked out in the round of 16.
These are things Guardiola could look to put right if he stays for one final year. He might have won both these competitions already, but they have proved trickier in recent times.
Is Enzo Maresca a good enough replacement?
Should Guardiola leave, Enzo Maresca looks set to take over, having previously served as the Catalan’s second in command.
Maresca has had success at both Leicester City and Chelsea in recent seasons. In fact, he won the Conference League and Club World Cup with the Blues.
However, the Italian was sacked at the beginning of the year, and coming from that situation to a club like Man City would be a big step.
Maresca has proven himself to be a winner, but delivering success in the Premier League is something he has not yet shown.
Perhaps he will be the right man for the job, but there is an element of risk in hiring someone who has never won a top flight title, especially considering the coach he is set to replace.
