Pep Guardiola reveals why he is pleased with Man City’s ‘incredible signing’ Marc Guehi

Pep Guardiola has waxed lyrical over Marc Guehi, shortly before the defender will face his old team for the first time.

Crystal Palace have had a number of success stories in recent years, including their former captain, who helped them record an FA Cup triumph last season.

The Eagles managed to avoid losing him to Liverpool on transfer deadline day last summer, but Manchester City swooped in during the mid-season window.

Marc Guehi has already made his way into the first-team, making 17 appearances so far in all competitions.

Pep Guardiola praises Marc Guehi

Often praised for his contributions on the pitch, Guehi also earns plaudits due to his personality and the way he conducts himself.

Guardiola has been impressed by the defender’s ‘behaviour’, as well as his ability to respond to facing setbacks.

He has been an incredible signing, the manager said of Guehi in his press conference before Man City’s clash against Crystal Palace.

“His focus in every single detail, in his private life to be a professional. He is an unbelievable signing for this club.

“We are really pleased with his behaviour, how he accepts the bad moments and he turns around immediately.

“That defines the big, big players at the big clubs. We are very pleased. I have said many times,” he added.

Guehi bounced back after the Everton game

It is no surprise to hear Guardiola talking about turning things around after bad moments, considering Guehi’s howler against Everton.

The centre-back passed the ball straight to Thierno Barry, which saw the Toffees draw level with Man City.

Ultimately, that allowed the hosts into the game and might have been the difference between a victory and a draw.

Yet Guehi fought back, keeping a clean sheet against Brentford in a match where he made 13 defensive contributions.

Guehi will look to seize his moment this weekend

With Palace visiting the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night, Guehi will be looking to make an impression against his former club.

Once that match is done and dusted, the 25 year old’s attention will very much be turned to Saturday, as Man City face Chelsea in the FA Cup final.

Guehi may have captained Palace to victory in last season’s final, but he had to miss his team’s celebration party. This is because the defender took a blow to the eye during the second half, forcing him to visit the hospital after the game.

Then when the Carabao Cup final came around in March, Guehi was ineligible to play because he only joined City at the very end of the transfer window.

This time around, Guehi will be hoping to enjoy the whole day and contribute to his first trophy at City in a competition where he has represented them.
