- Troy Deeney names his team of the week
- Two Man City players included
- Citizens thrashed Brentford last Saturday
Two Manchester City stars have been added to Troy Deeney’s team of the week after a 3-0 victory over Brentford.
It was a successful evening at the Etihad Stadium, with the hosts unlocking Brentford’s defence in the second half.
Jeremy Doku got things going with a superb effort, and Erling Haaland doubled their lead with one which was a bit scrappier.
Finally, Omar Marmoush found the net with an excellent stoppage time finish, wrapping up a comfortable win which gave Man City’s goal difference a healthy boost.
Troy Deeney includes Erling Haaland and Jeremy Doku in team of the week
Ex-Watford striker Troy Deeney has named his Premier League team of the week and two Man City players have been included.
Doku is an obvious choice after another jawdropping performance, while Haaland made the cut due to his two goal contributions.
Speaking about Doku, Deeney told BBC Sport: “What a month he’s had. He hadn’t scored a goal since November and then he’s got four in the last month.
“He’s flying and Manchester City are trying to put a bit of pressure on but it doesn’t feel like they’ll have enough in the tank.”
Turning his attention to Haaland, the retired forward added: “Goal and an assist so that’s why he is the man there.”
Man City need to keep winning
Interestingly, Deeney was unable to praise Doku without pointing out that he cannot see Man City having what it takes to win the league.
Despite this, the Citizens have scored 12 goals in their past five matches and other than the slip-up against Everton, they have been in excellent form.
Arsenal are still in control, but so long as City keep on taking three points from each game, there remains a chance to win the Premier League.
Haaland needs to be more clinical for Man City
Nobody is complaining about a 3-0 win, and it is hard to criticise Haaland after he registered a goal and an assist.
However, there is no getting away from the fact that the Norwegian only had 15 touches, yet still managed to miss multiple big chances.
This did not matter last Saturday, but there could be a time over the course of the next two weeks when it does.
The centre forward has been fantastic this season and without his goals, Man City would not currently be competing for two pieces of silverware.
But he still needs to do more to convert his goalscoring opportunities, ensuring that the Citizens win all their remaining matches.
