- Man City Women beat Chelsea in FA Cup semi-final
- Players took inspiration from manager’s pre-match message
- Encouraged to ‘always want a little more’
Manchester City overcame Chelsea in the Women’s FA Cup semi-final after an inspiring team talk from Andree Jeglertz.
It has been an exceptional few days for the Manchester City women’s team, beginning with their WSL triumph in midweek.
Next up was the women’s FA Cup semi-finals, and City found themselves behind Chelsea by two goals in the second half.
However, they mounted a late comeback and won after extra time, setting up another fixture at Wembley Stadium.
Andree Jeglertz gave a brilliant team talk
Ahead of the semi-final, Andree Jeglertz instilled wisdom on his team by pointing out that they were already winners.
Yet one trophy is not enough, as the players should always be looking to add to their list of accomplishments.

In a moment captured by Man City, he said: “The whole year we have been speaking about being a winning team. Now we are a winning team. But what do we then expect from winners?
“We expect that we always want a little bit more. So we reached something, we have confidence knowing wow, we are a great team, but we always want a little bit more.
“We always want to do the next performance even better. Now we want to play Wembley. It’s only up to us.
“By having the confidence, knowing that wow, we are a great team, we are a winning team and we are winners,” he continued.
“But we also show it now when we go out on the field with confidence, doing everything with determination.
“The other thing, just also saying this about staying connected during the whole game no matter what, if we are in momentum or without.”
Jegertz added: “Always speak, communicate with each other, then we will get into a big flow and get a good result.”
Man City will face Brighton in the final
City have already sealed the deal in the Women’s Super League, but there is still work to be done in the cup.
Brighton are the team Jeglertz’s side must beat in order to lift the trophy, as they too came back from two goals down, overcoming Liverpool.
The match will take place on Sunday, May 31, after the men’s season has already concluded. Kick off will be at 15:00 local time.
Chelsea could be about to sign City’s match winner
Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw has been key to Man City’s successes this season, and she is the club’s top scorer by a comfortable margin.
However, Shaw is set to leave Man City as her contract demands have not been met. This is despite the fact extensive talks had been held.
Chelsea are one of the clubs linked with the forward and would be willing to pay her £1m per year, which could be enough to seal a deal.
The 29 year old’s presence will certainly be missed at the Joie Stadium, and it raises questions about whether Jeglertz will be able to continue lifting silverware next season.
