Man City news today: WSL triumph, Bunny Shaw exit rumours and FA Cup final announcement

Share

Manchester City have been crowned champions of the Women’s Super League, but news has emerged that their star striker could leave the club this summer.

Read about this along with all the biggest stories of the day here on readmancity.com.

Khadija Shaw set to leave Man City

Every good story comes to an end and after the highs of last night, The Guardian have reported that Shaw is set to exit Man City this summer.

The 29-year-old has been involved in ‘extensive talks’ over a new deal, but in the end she has opted to pursue a new challenge.

Shaw had informed the club of his desire to stay, but there were matters which could not be agreed on, including the length of a new contract.

Additionally, the Citizens have not matched the financial offers of rival clubs, with Chelsea ready to pay the centre forward £1m per year.

Emmanuel Adebayor predicts Man City to win Premier League

Regardless of how things look on paper, ex-Arsenal and Man City striker Emmanuel Adebayor is still backing the Sky Blues to win the Premier League.

Interestingly though, the man from Togo has revealed that he wants Arsenal to lift the trophy, despite signing for Tottenham just three years after he left the Emirates.

“If you ask me today, I’ll still tell you I think Man City will win [the Premier League],” Adebayor told talkSPORT

“But I’d like Arsenal to win it. They were fighting for it even when I was there. This year, they’re doing quite well. The good thing is defensively, they’re very good. But now, they have to win the last three games.

“Man City dropping points against Everton, they’ll come back stronger. They’ll manage with their manager, the excellent team they have, they’ll do everything possible to win the last three games and wait for Arsenal to drop points so they can be champions,” he continued.

“But trust me, it’s not going to be easy for both. For the first time, I wish Arsenal wins it because they’ve been working towards this for so long.”

TNT Sports will begin their FA Cup final coverage at 9am

During PSG’s 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich in the Champions League, Darren Fletcher made an announcement regarding the FA Cup final next weekend.

The commentator told TNT Sports that the channel’s coverage of the match would begin at 9am BST, six hours before kick off.

Currently, the BBC’s build-up is not set to begin until 2pm. Therefore, even though the main British broadcaster is usually more popular, TNT might have the edge this time around.

Andreee Jeglertz reacts to WSL title victory

Manchester City’s manager Jeglertz has revealed that it was ‘horrible’ watching Arsenal’s draw with Brighton, because the result was out of his hands.

However, Jerglertz always had a feeling his team were good enough to win the league, due to three key qualities he saw in them.

“It’s been a horrible experience to watch another team play, knowing you can’t do anything – that was the worst 90 minutes of the season,” Jeglertz told BBC Radio 5 Live.

Asked if he expected Man City to win the league when he joined last summer, the boss added: “I don’t know if expect is the right word, but I knew the ambition from the club, what they put into the women’s programme, the quality of players and also the hunger to win.

“Definitely, I had a feeling already from the beginning that it was possible. I’m here because that was one of the many things they wanted us to aim for.

“I definitely believed in it, but it went fast. We got pretty good, quite early. The more you believe in it, then everything is possible with the quality of this group.”

Man City win Women’s Super League

For only the second time ever, Man City have won the WSL. The title was wrapped up after Arsenal drew 1-1 away to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Chelsea are the team in second, trailing City by six points. Despite this, it was the Gunners who had the chance to make a comeback, with three games in hand before their midweek clash.

The Citizens still have one league match left to play, which will take place on the same day of the FA Cup final.

Man City seal Manu Akanji transfer fee

According to Manchester Evening News, Inter Milan have triggered the conditions to sign Manuel Akanji permanently from Manchester City.

The reports said that the Citizens will bank around £13m in the deal as the Italian side is set to meet the clause in Akanji’s loan deal.

The Swiss international joined the Serie A side on loan at the start of the season. After falling out of Guardiola’s long-term plans, Akanji decided to search for gametime elsewhere.

The agreement included an obligation to buy Akanji if he played in at least 50% of Inter’s Serie A games and they won the league.

Inter ended up winning the Serie A title with a 2-0 win over Parma on the weekend. Akanji also featured regularly enough to trigger the clause.
