Real Madrid and Barcelona reportedly sent representatives to Anfield to watch Erling Haaland during City’s 3-0 win over Liverpool.
Haaland scored City’s opening goal after Ryan Gravenberch had been sent off, with Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki also scoring as Enzo Maresca’s side maintained their perfect Premier League start. Reports in Spain say representatives from both clubs were at the game, with Haaland among the players being watched.

Transfer reporter Ekrem Konur says Real Madrid sent a representative to watch Haaland, while TEAMtalk reports that both Madrid and Barcelona had scouts at Anfield. Haaland was not the only player being monitored, but the 26-year-old has long been linked with a move to Spain.
The striker signed a nine-and-a-half-year contract with City in January 2025, keeping him at the Etihad until 2034. Sky Sports News reported at the time that the agreement contained no release clauses, while City have disputed subsequent claims that one exists.
Haaland had missed a one-on-one shortly before Gravenberch received his second yellow card on Sunday but made no mistake with his next opportunity, beating Alisson to put City ahead. Doku doubled the lead three minutes later before Cherki completed the 3-0 victory at Anfield.
Haaland’s future has attracted further attention since the independent commission delivered its findings in City’s Premier League financial case. City have appealed against the decision and no sanction has yet been imposed.
Our Man City appeal explainer covers the timetable for the appeal and what happens next.
