- Nathan Ake linked with Man City exit
- Three Italian clubs have been offered the defender
- The Dutchman could leave in search of regular football
Nathan Ake has reportedly been offered to three Serie A clubs as uncertainty continues over his Manchester City future ahead of the summer transfer window.
Man City could see further changes in the back four this summer. With John Stones already set to leave after his contract expires, other defenders might also see the door in a few months.
Another centre-back with an uncertain future is Nathan Ake, whose regular contributions declined during the campaign.
The Dutchman was previously linked with a move away from the Etihad. Likewise, recent reports confirm the rumours, and Ake might leave this summer, a year before his contract expires.
Nathan Ake offered to Serie A clubs
According to journalist Nicolo Schira, Ake has been offered to Juventus, Roma and Inter Milan by an intermediary.
The Italian journalist also previously claimed that the Dutchman is now ready to leave Man City in the upcoming transfer window.
However, there is no indication that City have received official offers or that talks are in an advanced stage.
The situation appears to be an early-stage club search with Ake weighing up his options in European football.
Ake would like regular football
Ake made 23 starts in the 2023/24 Premier League season, being an integral part of City’s defence during the campaign.
However, injury struck in the 2024/25 season after the Dutchman missed a major chunk of the season due to a hamstring injury.
His role was further diminished in this campaign despite making early starts around September. Following his fall in the pecking order, the 31-year-old is hoping for a move in search of regular football.
Fabrizio Romano had also reported that Ake was considering the possibility of leaving the Etihad this summer.
City’s succession plan could squeeze Ake out
Ake’s future is also being affected by the younger defensive options already moving into City’s long-term picture.
Abdukodir Khusanov is no longer just a high-potential youngster but has stepped up like a senior defender this season in the absence of Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol.
Vitor Reis is also being pushed for a call back at the Etihad, who is on loan at Girona at the moment. Pep Guardiola praised the Brazilian and the season he has had in La Liga.
Reis might play at the Etihad next season, making cup appearances for the club. Ake is still offered starts in cup competitions, but at 31, he’d like regular football to keep his place in the national team.
However, with Reis potentially coming back, the Dutchman might be pushed even further in the pecking order. Hence, an exit is imminent for Ake if regular football is the goal.
