Fabrizio Romano gives transfer update on Nathan Ake’s future at Manchester City

  • Natahan Ake linked with move away from Man City
  • Interest from Italy
  • Nothing confirmed as of yet

Nathan Ake has previously been linked with a move away from Manchester City, and now an update has been given on whether he might leave the club this summer.

Manchester City’s defence will see at least one change next season, with the news that John Stones is departing in the summer.

The England international might not be the only centre-back to move on, as Nathan Ake has been linked with a Man City exit.

Ake has seen the importance of his role at the Etihad Stadium reduced, and a permanent transfer could be what he needs to re-establish himself as a first-team player.

Nathan Ake exploring Man City departure

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Ake is weighing up his future at Man City, and is considering bidding his club of six years farewell after the season concludes.

However, the Dutchman is currently focused on finishing what has been a strong campaign with City. In fact, it is one they could end with three pieces of silverware.

Once Ake does make a decision, he could be given the opportunity to move to Serie A, with Italian clubs previously showing an interest.

Ake has lost his significance at City

Although Ake was recently handed starts in the Carabao Cup final and FA Cup semi-final respectively, he has not been one of Pep Guardiola’s key players this season.

Indeed, the 31-year-old has started only four of Man City’s 33 Premier League matches, despite remaining free from any injuries.

Therefore, his future at the club is likely to be limited largely to domestic cup matches, which might not be enough to persuade him to stay.

Ake is still a Netherlands international

Last month, Ake played 77 minutes for the Netherlands against Ecuador and he will be hoping to appear at the World Cup this summer.

Even after that, the Everton-linked defender might still feel like he has one major tournament left in him, with the next Euros taking place in 2028.

However, Ake is only going to continue being selected by Ronald Koeman if he is regularly playing football.

Remaining at the Citizens would see Ake win more trophies, but it would certainly become a disadvantage on an individual level.
