Man City news today: FA Cup action, transfer rumours and EA team of the season

Share

Today is the day Manchester City take on Southampton, with a place in the FA Cup final on offer to whoever wins at Wembley.

Read on to discover what is being said about this evening’s game, along with the latest on transfers and other breaking news.

City attackers dominate EAFC PL Team of the Season selection

Erling Haaland led the way in terms of ratings for the Citizens. The striker was rated 96 with only Bruno Fernandes scoring higher (97).

Gianluigi Donnarumma was next who was rated 95 and the only other goalkeeper in the squad was rival David Raya with a grade of 93.

Just like Donnarumma, Rayan Cherki was also included in his first Premier League season. He was graded 93 by EA Sports.

City’s last player was another latest joinee with Antoine Semenyo edging Cherki in terms of rating (94). The winger has four assists and 15 goals in the league this season.

Inter ready to make Manuel Akanji move permanent

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Inter Milan are willing to turn the Manuel Akanji move into a permanent deal ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Italian journalist also reports that a fee of approximately £13m has been agreed for the defender’s services.

Akanji joined Inter Milan on a loan deal at the start of the season with an option to buy. The Swiss defender has been an indispensable part of Cristian Chivu’s side, making 29 starts in Serie A.

Pep Guardiola an ‘inspiration’ for Southampton boss Tonda Eckert

Speaking ahead of their much-anticipated FA Cup clash, Saints boss Eckert spoke of the impact Guardiola has had on his fledgeling coaching career.

The German told TNT Sports of his admiration for the City manager, and how much other coaches aspire to emulate the Catalan.

Eckert said: “He has been an inspiration for many coaches, younger and older ones. And it’s the same for me. I always enjoyed watching his teams play.

“I was obviously quite close to the times when he was at Bayern Munich and had a look at a couple of the training sessions that he’s done.”

Aston Villa want to sign Omar Marmoush

Back in January, Unai Emery was keen on getting Aston Villa to take Omar Marmoush from Man City to Villa Park.

However, the Villains ended up signing Tammy Abraham instead, while the Egyptian remained at the club he joined at the start of 2025.

Still, The Times have reported that Aston Villa are looking to ‘lure’ Marmoush to the Black Country with the promise of an increase in his minutes.

Manchester City dealt Sandro Tonali transfer blow

With Tonali’s agent openly discussing an exit earlier this season, a January move to Arsenal looked likely at one stage.

Talk of a move away from St. James’ Park has only increased since then, with City continuing to monitor the midfielder’s situation.

Guardiola is a major admirer of Tonali, and had identified the 32-cap international as a key target for the upcoming summer window.

However, Team Talk is now reporting that Tonali’s primary desire is to return to his native Italy and rejoin a club in Serie A.
