- Man City closing in on Arsenal
- Could go top with win over Burnley
- Jamie Carragher backs them to win the league
Manchester City are just one win away from going top of the Premier League table, and Jamie Carragher is now convinced the club will claim the title.
Sunday’s match between Manchester City and Arsenal was seen by many as a Premier League title decider, even though there are still multiple games left to play.
Were Arsenal to win or draw, it would have been difficult for Man City to launch a comeback before the end of the season.
However, a City win would give them all the momentum, with the Gunners left doubting their ability after yet another domestic defeat.
Of course, it is the Citizens who clinched all three points at the Etihad Stadium, meaning they are now viewed by many as favourites for the league title.
Jamie Carragher backs Man City
Not so long ago, many pundits were hailing Arsenal’s squad as not only the best this season, but one of the greatest in the history of the Premier League.
This narrative has since changed rather dramatically, with City viewed as the team with the standout stars.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has backed Pep Guardiola’s team to win the English top flight, and part of the reason is due to the quality in their ranks.

He told Sky Sports Monday Night Football: “Yes, I think City have got the edge. I just think momentum, experience. I think how that will affect Arsenal psychologically, not just that game, the run of games that they’re on, the performances as well.
“I think this was definitely a better performance, there’s no doubt about that. I thought it was a brilliant game. I thought it was a testament to both teams, managers, it felt like a real top level game.
“City came out on top. I think they’ve just got a bit of extra talent, maybe a little bit more ability in certain positions than Arsenal do right now, but as I said it was a fantastic Premier League game, credit to them all.”
Manchester City are strong in every area
Gianluigi Donnarumma made a bad error on Sunday, but he is still viewed as one of Europe’s best goalkeepers. In front of him is a strong backline, with the likes of Abdukodir Khusanov and Nico O’Reilly turning heads in recent weeks.
City’s midfield is full of maturity. Rodri controlled games with his composed passes and Bernardo Silva showed incredible workrate as his side conquered the Gunners.
Up front there is a lot of quality. Erling Haaland is a goal machine, Rayan Cherki has become the ultimate creator, while Jeremy Doku and Antoine Semenyo are both real attacking threats.
It really does feel like Guardiola has found his strong starting XI, and no team in England has what it takes to tear them down.
City should win the Premier League
Carragher was asked about Man City’s remaining fixtures, as they are deemed to be harder than Arsenal’s last few games.
The ex-defender agrees with this premise, but he still reckons City will win the league because they have all the momentum.
It is hard to argue with this assessment, because all the Sky Blues need to do is keep playing the way they have been playing and that should be enough.
Whereas with Arsenal, there are no easy games. This is a team who lost to Southampton and Bournemouth, so they are clearly low on confidence.
Man City still have a job to do and now is not the time to show complacency. However, there have been no signs that their current pattern of results is going to change for the worse.
