- Treble medals up for sale
- Auction set for April
- Seller identity unclear
A figure connected to Manchester City’s historic Treble-winning campaign is set to auction off a full set of medals from the iconic 2022/23 campaign.
The 2022/23 season was a special one for Manchester City. After years of scattered title wins, they finally won the big three trophies in a single season.
It was also the first time the Sky Blues had been crowned continental champions, marking a high point of the Pep Guardiola era.
That season was some time ago now, but the success has come into focus again with a surprising development involving memorabilia.
Man City treble season medals set for auction
According to the Daily Mail, someone linked to Manchester City is selling off their treble season medals. The auction is set to be held later this month.
Budds, a sports memorabilia auctioning company, confirmed that the collection will contain five medals from the 2022/23 season.
The Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup medals will be accompanied by their original ribbons.
The FA Cup and the Premier League medals also come in their original boxes.
Auction date and opening bid
The auction will be held on the 28th of April at the Made in Manchester Live auction. With the treble being one of the biggest achievements for the Sky Blues, the expectations are sky high.
The opening bid is set at £30,000, but the collectors might double or even triple the figure to get their hands on this piece of history.
Budds, the company holding the auction, estimates the set to rake in something around the range of £50,000 to £80,000.
How Guardiola’s team won the treble
The Champions League final in Istanbul was a one-goal affair, with Rodri wrapping up the win for Man City. The FA Cup final, on the other hand, was a rather interesting game against arch-rivals Man United.
Ilkay Gundogan opened the scoring. However, Bruno Fernandes came back with a penalty in the 33rd minute. Finally, it was Gundogan again who sealed the deal for City in the 51st minute to win the club their seventh FA Cup title.
The Premier League was won by a five-point margin over Arsenal, while Sevilla were City’s next victims in a penalty shootout in the UEFA Super Cup.
In the winter, Fluminense did not stand a chance. Guardiola’s men scored four past the Brazilian side in Saudi Arabia to win the FIFA Club World Cup. Therefore it was a treble, with a couple of nice add-ons too.
