Everton unwilling to activate clause to sign Jack Grealish from Manchester City

  • Ball not in Manchester City’s court
  • PSR could play key role in transfer fee

Everton have the option to make Jack Grealish’s move from Manchester City permanent this summer, but there is one problem.

Everton are interested in signing Jack Grealish on a permanent deal from Manchester City in the summer. The Toffees have a £50 million option to sign him permanently, but are unwilling to activate it.

David Moyes played a key role in bringing the Englishman to the Hill Dickinson Stadium last summer, with the Merseyside club agreeing a loan deal with the Citizens.

The forward has done well, scoring twice and assisting six times in his 20 Premier League matches. However, his foot injury put the transfer on hold, and Everton are now reevaluating the fee they are willing to pay to sign the 30-year-old.

Everton want Grealish but won’t pay Manchester City clause

Manchester City and Everton agreed a £50 million option to buy in the loan agreement for Grealish last summer, but the Toffees are not expected to trigger it.

They remain confident of signing him permanently at the end of the season, and The Athletic report that fresh negotiations over the fee are set to take place.

The publication claims that the player’s former value of £100 million will have dropped to something between £16-21 million in the summer.

Moyes’ side are hoping to agree a deal in a similar range, as they do not see the value in paying £50 million for him, which is what Man City want.

Grealish is entering the final year of his contract and that puts the Cityzens in a tough spot, as they do not have any other club interested in signing the Englishman.

The key factor in the final fee agreement could be down to PSR and SCR regulations, as the Etihad side need to stay within limits. Also, another stumbling block is the £300,000 per week contract, which Everton are unwilling to match.

What next for Jack Grealish?

Grealish suffered a foot injury earlier this season, and it has all but ended his year, during Everton’s 1-0 win over Aston Villa. He has since been ruled out for the season, and the Toffees are hoping to string an agreement to have him at the club for pre-season.

As for Manchester City, the Englishman’s time at the club is all but done, with Pep Guardiola unlikely to add him back to the squad.

The Spaniard has Antoine Semenyo, Jérémy Doku, Rayan Cherki, and Savinho as his key wingers, with Phil Foden and Omar Marmoush chipping in when needed.

Therefore, it is highly likely that Grealish will depart this summer. The only real question is whether or not Everton will be able to agree terms with Man City.
