Nathan Ake set for Fenerbahce move after agreeing Manchester City exit

Nathan Ake is set to leave Manchester City after agreeing a move to Turkish side Fenerbahce, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.

Romano reported on Friday that the deal has been completed, with the Netherlands international also reaching an agreement on personal terms after deciding he wanted a new challenge following several years at the Etihad Stadium. The move brings an end to Aké’s six-year spell with City, having joined from Bournemouth in 2020.

The 31-year-old established himself as a key member of Pep Guardiola’s squad during one of the most successful periods in the club’s history, winning multiple major honours, including the Premier League and the Champions League.

Aké’s versatility allowed him to operate both at centre-back and left-back, although injuries limited his involvement during parts of his later seasons in Manchester.

Interest from Fenerbahce had been building throughout the summer, with reports last month suggesting the Turkish club had opened talks with City over a potential transfer.

Romano now says an agreement has been reached, with Aké opting for a fresh start in the Turkish Super Lig.

His departure would represent another significant change to Enzo Maresca’s new squad as City continue to reshape their options ahead of the new campaign, with further incomings and outgoings certain before the transfer window closes.
